Law enforcement searching for the suspect in Wednesday’s mass shootings in Maine will search the Androscoggin River, close to where the suspect’s vehicle was found, Mike Sauschuck, Public Safety Commissioner for the Governor’s Office, said at a Friday press conference.
Sauschuck said authorities don’t know where the suspect, identified asRobert Card, is, or whether he’s dead or alive.
Sauschuck added that the suspect left a note at his residence, but he did not provide details on the note.
Eighteen people were killedand 13 were injured during the shootings, which took place at Just-In-Time Recreation, a bowling alley, and Schemengees Bar and Grille, about four miles away.

The suspect is a Petroleum Supply Specialist in the U.S. Army Reserve, Army Spokesman Bryce Dubee tells PEOPLE.
The Associated Press, citing a state police bulletin, reports the suspect had recently been committed to a mental health facility for two weeks this past summer.

According to the bulletin, the suspect had threatened to perpetrate a shooting at a military base in Saco, Maine. The bulletin also says the suspect had said he’d heard voices.
