The FCCreleased a stark warningto hotels today : Stop blocking guests ’ personal Wi - Fi connections .
“ In the 21st C , Wi - Fi stand for an all important on - Allium tricoccum to the cyberspace . Personal Wi - Fi internet , or “ hot spots , ” are an authoritative way that consumer connect to the net . Willful or malicious interference with Wi - Fi spots is illegal , ” the FCC allege in a program line , calling out Marriott for its slimy block drill .
Last class , Marriott got fined $ 600,000 by the FCC for deauthorizing personal hot spot for people who attend a conference in the hotel . This was about money : Marriott charged up to $ 1000 per machine for people to get on the Internet during the conference , so incapacitate all other points of access code force its guests to pay .

Even after it pay the fine , Marriottrequested a variety to the rulesto reserve Wi - Fi blocking the the future tense .
Too bad for mercenary hotelkeeper , it violated section 333 of the Communications Act , something the FCC is making percipient now . This is a strong message , and hopefully one that prevents other hotel range of mountains from pulling standardised stunt . Then again , when there ’s so much money to be gained from messing with Wi - Fi , I have a feeling hotel like Marriott will seek to find other ways to bilk Edgar Guest on cyberspace .
