Anil Dash recognise a rather desperate sign in the window of a Manhattan shop that develops flick :
I noticed this augury in front of a camera shop class here in Manhattan a few weeks ago and remembered to take a picture of it the last time I walked by . “ Digital Cameras Can make Blindness ” . It ’s of course a not - very - odd joke from a shop that develop film double , rail off against the changes overwhelm their business . They ’ve pose other sign up , too , “ Digital Cameras Can Cause Stroke ” and a host of other maladies , include separatrix , sterility , sudden expiry , and the awful “ short quality pic . ”
Yet another indication of how digital picture taking is edging out regular film photography and how sullen that is to the entire picture taking establishment , from Kodak down to sovereign shop proprietor . Film is n’t going to disappear , but it is going to move into a niche where it ’ll be used primarily for artistic and professional purpose . Shops like these are either going to have to learn to cater exclusively to that niche or learn to get down printing digital photos .
