Now that Apple has officially announce its new iPhone 8 and iPhone X , it ’s Google ’s tour to attempt to wow the macrocosm with what it thinks is the hereafter of smartphones . And even though last year’sPixel was a success in many ways , there are still a phone number of improvement I ’d care to see on the Pixel 2 ( or whatever Google calls it ) when it ’s expected to be announce onOctober 4 .
1) Get the design right
One of the biggest knocks against the first Pixel ( and justly so ) , was that it attend like a technical school - y version of Frankenstein ’s monster . On the back , Google attempted to cover up a last - minute lobotomy that was used to fit the Pixel ’s camera and fingermark detector with bragging lump of methamphetamine hydrochloride . The end result was kind of amateurish . On the front , the Pixel ’s big bezel made it look bloated and see from day one , and all that extra space tap to be put to better use on lineament like front - facing talker or merely a bigger silver screen . And the Pixel ’s lack of any sort of water - resistance was a cardinal sinfulness ; no headphone that costs over $ 600 should ship without a meaningfulIP paygrade . The next Pixel needs to be just as pretty as it is functional , and anything less wo n’t be flagship lineament .
2) Don’t forget standard flagship features
I know there ’s basically no chance Google puts a microSD card slot on the next Pixel , but if there are n’t feature like wireless charging or a earpiece jack , Google is fucking up . With rumors swirling about Google ’s coming “ Bisto ” wireless headphones , the odds of the Pixel 2 include a 3.5 millimetre audio jack seem pretty svelte . But as much as I want to live in a wireless futurity , we are n’t there yet , and ditching the phone jack will be bad for most the great unwashed .
I would also like to see Google take back the dual front - facing speakers from the Nexus 6P. There are even rumors that the Pixel 2 might have squeezable sides standardised to the HTC U11 , but that ’s really more of a bonus than a must - have feature .
3) Make the Pixel’s Camera Even Better
This one kind of go without the saying , but the Pixel ’s camera , especially its HDR+ mode , was a divine revelation . Google need to continue that form of excellence while enhance the overall photo experience by adding manual configurations and more control to the camera app , while improving on low - light image character . I ’m not even sure if the Pixel 2 needs to have dual cameras , but now that Samsung , Apple , LG , Huawei , and others are all doing it , that would be squeamish , too .
4) Keep the price reasonable
As Apple ’s iPhone X pushes the starting price of mainstream phones high than ever before , I consider it would be a mistake for Google to stray into the $ 800 compass now just because it can . A received modeling starting at $ 650 with a large model around $ 750 would actually feel like a rilievo now that we ’ve been bombard with the $ 930 Galaxy Note 8 and the $ 999 iPhone X. Remember your catchword , Google : “ Do n’t be Evil . ”
5) Make sure people can actually buy one
One of the biggest consequence with last twelvemonth ’s Pixel is that , try as they might , most people could n’t actually buy one . Google ’s provision chain was in such shambles that evensix months after its sack , the wait time for Pixels was still months - long . Add in the fact that many citizenry call up the phone was a Verizon undivided thanks tomisleading ads , and it ’s in all probability there were thousands of folks who may have considered purchase a Pixel but ended up not even trying . What good is a phone that no one can actually get ?
